In the realm of digital marketing, video content is king.
Up to 65% of people are visual learners, which is why animation or animated videos are the perfect way to relay information and capture your audience.
The earliest forms of animation can be traced back to the Egyptian era drawings. To depict motion, ancient glyphs are drawn repetitively, while the spinning wheel projects the illusion of movement.
Just like with animation, the same concept is used by modern illustrators to create a series of pictures. If you play it fast one after the other, it creates movement. For example, remember what we all did when we were students? If you draw stick figures on the corner of each page of a textbook, it comes to life by flipping pages one after the other. Tada! That’s basic animation!
There are two kinds of animation: 2D and 3D. It is worth understanding the differences between each. It helps in figuring out which format will work best with your content needs.

2D or 2-Dimensional
As the name suggests, 2D objects have two dimensions only– height and width.
2D is the most efficient and cost-effective type of animation. It requires basic technology that runs on any computer. Brands prefer to use 2D for their landing page elements and even some social media content, giving them smooth and seamless results.
2D is perfect for logos, ads, cartoon graphics, basic instructional videos, etc.

3D or 3-Dimensional
Next up is the more advanced 3D animation. With the addition of a third dimension– depth— to height and width, 3D can create more realistic with the use of more advanced computer programs, making it more expensive to produce.
3D works for multi-faceted and complex concepts, such as human anatomy or molecular structures. It gives the brain a preview of what cannot be easily seen. Similarly, 3D is perfect for gaming, biotech, movies, etc.
